As health professionals and research have been reciting in chorus lately, forget the celery juice and biohacking, the basics are back in trend: sleep, sunshine, movement, nutrition, and relationships/connection. It’s about mastering the basics for the long game. Enter stage right - rucking What It IsRucking is carrying weight while walking or hiking. That it. Weight and walking. The military and moms are the OG ruckers. Whether that’s a kiddo or the kiddo’s things, moms are forever moving about their day lifting and carrying. The military has been rucking since the dawn of time as well, carrying their gear from point A to point B or using it as a mechanism to assess fitness levels. I used to dread rucking in the military, with it’s 13kms and 40lbs within a certain time frame. But since releasing in 2011, it’s one habit that I ended up keeping. A natural addition to my love of hiking and being outdoors. Why It’s on the RiseIt’s cheap, scalable, and effective as all get out. Michael Easter wrote about it in his book, The Comfort Crisis. The veteran owned company GoRuck has expanded so much that there are GoRuck events all over the world. There’s even a Sandlot Jax fitness festival that they host annually in Florida. You don’t have to take my word for why this is a fantastic way to stay healthy and grow a community, check out the resources below. What Equipment You NeedThere are rucks specifically designed for this type of exercise, but it can be as simple as grabbing a comfortable backpack and using water bottles or books as weight. Doesn’t matter if it’s 3lbs for 300m or 30lbs for 3kms. Rucking is rucking is rucking. You can scale up or down as needed. Do You Ruck? Will You Try It?Reply to this email and let me know!
