The bells of mid-life are ringing louder this year than any other. Call it a mid-life crisis, the grand unraveling, or simply the realization that I’ll be 45 this summer…the desire to redesign life has been an unceasing alarm in my mind. It’s that gut feeling that something isn’t quite right. Mostly right, but not quite. overall sense of an unidentifiable lacking feeling that there must be more aligning goals and actions with sense of self questioning if I’m doing my best to live well/fully
It could be nothing, or could be something, either way, it’s useful to take note of feelings with curiousity. Am I living my big life? What Drives Your Big LifeA few years ago, I was asked “What would you like people to think about on Remembrance Day?”
My part of my response was this; “It is my belief that the best way we can honour those who died overseas is to live our best lives. And I mean wholeheartedly put our best foot forward every day to connect and heal. To be kind, to listen, to lift up others. Continually strive to be good humans. And to take in experiences with a grateful heart. It is our duty to do our best to live the life they never had the chance to fulfill.”
Gene, an American Vietnam Veteran, echoed that sentiment in an online interview, he stated; “I have a responsibility to live my life as best as possible, to make sure that those who fell in combat was not done in vain. That I was worthy to keep going.”
We are all both worthy and capable. This is what gets me out of bed in the morning to workout. What has me outside to watch the sun rise. What motivates me to pick up the phone to connect with friends. What has me living below my means to afford big life experiences. What drives your big life? I like a little unknown in the future. But if we’re talking about right now, well then, that includes booking a wildly big trip for my birthday this summer that I’ve been “someday-ing” for a while.
